The BC Public Service Agency (PSA) engaged Berlineaton to develop a framework to ensure excellence in executive transitions. With our unique blend of consulting and coaching expertise, Berlineaton was uniquely qualified to assist the PSA with this project.
Following the Ombudsperson’s Report, Misfire: 2012 Ministry of Health Employment Termination and Related Matters, the BC Public Service Agency, in response to the Ombudsperson’s Recommendation #30, engaged Berlineaton to develop a framework to ensure excellence in executive transitions – from recruitment and selection, to on boarding, and ongoing support.
Project Overview
Our approach to this initiative was a combination of best practice research and focus group ‘ground truthing', which culminated in a report of recommendations and an implementation plan, using real-life experiences and personal narratives as core to our recommendations.  Unique to the Berlineaton brand, our facilitative approach set in place an important on-ramp for implementing new approaches quickly and effectively.
Conclusion
Our work allowed the PSA to respond effectively to the Ombudsperson’s Recommendation #30 and posed a set of actionable, cost-effective and timely recommendations that would achieve excellence in orienting and transitioning executives to their new portfolios including:
  • Making improvements to the existing executive transitions process
  • Customizing the executive’s transition experience and supports provided to reflect his/her experience and the complexity of the environment he/she is moving into
  • Embedding the executive transitions process in a succession planning context inside a comprehensive talent management framework.

Will your organization exist five years from now?
Organizations that thrive excel in three areas:

  • Direction: a clear, widely shared, and aspirational vision of the future and a compelling road map to get there.
  • Process: clear, effective and efficient steps that create meaningful outputs. Daily tasks and deliverables yield their best results when processes are clear and strong, and aligned with organizational objectives. Processes facilitate the alignment of action with direction.
  • People: People make it all happen. People have the skills, capacity, and impetus to translate strategic intent into reality. Ultimately, people and the culture they create drive an organization towards its chosen future.
