Ensuring Excellence in Executive Transitions

Following the Ombudsperson’s Report, Misfire: 2012 Ministry of Health Employment Termination and Related Matters, the BC Public Service Agency, in response to the Ombudsperson’s Recommendation #30, engaged Berlineaton to develop a framework to ensure excellence in executive transitions – from recruitment and selection, to on boarding, and ongoing support.

A Profound Experience

The BC Public Service Agency (PSA) engaged Berlineaton to develop a framework to ensure excellence in executive transitions. With our unique blend of consulting and coaching expertise, Berlineaton was uniquely qualified to assist the PSA with this project.

Practical Solutions

Our approach to this initiative was a combination of best practice research and focus group ‘ground truthing’, which culminated in a report of recommendations and an implementation plan, using real-life experiences and personal narratives as core to our recommendations.  Unique to the Berlineaton brand, our facilitative approach set in place an important on-ramp for implementing new approaches quickly and effectively.

Bolder Futures

Our work allowed the PSA to respond effectively to the Ombudsperson’s Recommendation #30 and posed a set of actionable, cost-effective and timely recommendations that would achieve excellence in orienting and transitioning executives to their new portfolios including:

  • Making improvements to the existing executive transitions process
  • Customizing the executive’s transition experience and supports provided to reflect his/her experience and the complexity of the environment he/she is moving into
  • Embedding the executive transitions process in a succession planning context inside a comprehensive talent management framework.

Are you looking to set a new, bold direction, equip your teams and leaders with new skills, or make your organization stronger?

  • The emphasis on Strategic Management was important to us, since we didn't want a plan that sat on the shelf after several months of strategic thinking. I found that Berlineaton didn't come to our organization with a preconception of what our strategic plan would look like, but they made an authentic effort to understand the people in our community and be in tune with its ethos, its goals and its people. They gained trust and confidence and continue to work with us on the implementation of our tactical plan.

  • Overall, I would highly recommend Berlineaton for anyone seeking superior results in the field of facilitated, team-based process improvement that blend a focus on more task focused business results with the team, and overall people, engagement required to promote higher levels of ownership and execution success.

    Executive Director,

    BC Government

  • Berlineaton helped me work through staffing changes and a significant workload immediately following the COVID-19 outbreak. Our coaching sessions were very much appreciated, and I was able to re-focus on the strategic goals of our organization, while still leading my team and day-to-day operations. Being able to improve my leadership competencies and navigate the last few months was invaluable to say the least.
